New Ways To Do The Body Good

New Ways To Do The Body Good

With continued research in healthcare, we are constantly striving to find alternative ways to make us feel better and stay healthy. With the epidemic overused medications, people are seeking out natural ways to fight infection and prevent disease. Below are some unique and effective ways to try out that you may have never heard of.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is an alternative health treatment for body's natural healing process by inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is controlled. We breathe air at sea level that contains 21% oxygen, 78% Nitrogen and 1% of other gases. HBOT is used for a wide variety of treatments from Decompression Sickness (Bends) which most people are aware of this therapy for now from everything to increased energy and increased immune function to supporting the body in recovering from cancer.

Normally oxygen is transported throughout the body by red blood cells. With HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of the body's fluids, plasma, central nervous system fluids, and lymph nodes and can be carried to injured tissue where circulation is diminished or blocked. Most sessions last about an hour and from my experience once you get over being in a small chamber that can be claustrophobic. I found it quite relaxing and worth the time.

Benefits:

  • Reduces swelling and inflammation
  • Helps your body eliminate waste and toxins
  • Increases oxygen concentration in all body tissues; even with reduced or blocked blood flow
  • Speed up healing rate and fight infection

Infrared Sauna Detoxification
Infrared sauna will help you literally sweat the toxins that are stored in your body from our largest organ – our skin. I’ve been using infrared for years and the ability for this to heat the body direct and not just warm up the air like traditional sauna’s, not only increase your core temperature and produce a deep sweat. Removing the built-up of toxins substances from our daily lives from our bodies is important because of our increasing polluted environment leads to support many common illnesses today. It is one of the best ways to defend yourself from sickness and disease.

Current research estimates that the root causes of (up to 80%) all our illnesses are from environment and lifestyles - from the air we breathe to the foods we eat. As we sweat our body can release some of these toxic substances, including heavy metals, and helps protects from the accumulation of these toxins.

In a 2004 article in the Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, Lawrence Wilson, MD, wrote, “If I were to single out one method to combat cancer, it is the sauna. It assists removal of chemical toxins and heavy metals, increases oxygenation, enhances the immune system, and reduces the radiation burden in the body.”

Benefits:

  • Removes toxins
  • Helps with body fat and weight loss
  • Increases relaxation, circulation and pain relief
  • Helps prevent sickness and disease

Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC
Another name I’ve heard it described as is cyrosauna, as the whole body except the head is exposure to below zero temperatures. It sounds like it would be a miserable going into to ice cold water, however the room produces a dry coldness making it much more tolerable than expected. The extreme cold stimulates skin sensors this activates the Central Nervous System, releasing endorphins, the body's natural pain inhibitors and mood elevators. Whole Body Cryotherapy is a new in the United States but has been popular in Japan and Europe for decades.

Benefits:

  • Increases energy
  • Reduces muscle soreness and joint pain
  • Helps with skin conditions
  • supports weight loss
  • Improve circulation
  • Decreases inflammantion

Floating
That latest rage in Seattle is floating with multiple float venues popping up. Floating includes being suspended in water that is saturated with hundreds of pounds of Epsom salt allowing you to stay afloat on your back. Most float sessions will usually last 1 hour. The environment is either an individual enclosed pod or small shallow pool. It will typically have mood lighting in the water while providing a sound controlled environment that reduces sensory stimulation. The water is at skin temperature so after a few minutes you will lose the awareness of where the body ends and the water begins allowing a resting environment.

When you float you produce slower brain-wave patterns, known as alpha and theta waves, which are experienced just before falling asleep or during deep meditation. In this relaxed state you may experience increased new discoveries about yourself. With your mind free to explore thoughts without distraction, your brain pumps out dopamine and endorphins, the neurotransmitters of happiness. According to Life Float in South Lake Union the benefits include:

  • Relax, if you're wound up
  • Revive, if you're wiped out
  • Recover, if you need to heal
  • Reconnect, if you feel untethered
