In Need of Some D
The season of gloomy and sunless days are upon us in Seattle. You may be feeling a little “blue” but passing it off as seasonal depression… or you could be feeling, tired or sick and spend your time counting down the minutes until sunny days are back. But before you go and blame it on the rain, your body may just be lacking some D.   Despite its name, vitamin D is not your every day vitamin. Actually, it is a hormone that your body makes by itself designed for you to obtain vitamin D mostly through sun exposure, not though your diet. It helps fight infections, including colds and the common flu and will help regulate the expression of genes that influence your immune system to attack and destroy bacteria and viruses. However, here lies one the the biggest ...

Concert Review: 107.7 The End's Deck the Hall Ball 2015

Concert Review: 107.7 The End's Deck the Hall Ball 2015
The weather was cold and rainy the day of 107.7 The End's  Deck the Hall Ball , but the adoring fans waiting to get in were full of bright and warm spirits. As I found my seat, I watched people pour into the pit, anticipating the live music to come. Some were festively wrapped in Christmas lights or wearing Santa caps. Soon the lights dimmed and the seated mass of people arose like a wave as Deep Sea Diver walked onto the stage. The stage was painted purple by the lights above as they began to play. Deep Sea Diver definitely got the party started in Key Arena. They ended with a bluesy version of “O’ Holy Night” that captivated the crowd. It was such a pleasure to watch a local band play their first big show. X Ambassadors was next. Lead singer, Sam Harris, ran...

Runway Reimagined

Runway Reimagined
Runway Reimagined did more for the imagination than a typical fashion show. As models walked down the runway, the audience not only admired the clothing and outfits but were filled with curiosity of where each garment came from, the history behind each piece, and blown away by how they made everything look so good together. Value Village and Eco Fashion Week put together this event to not only inspire change but create awareness about the waste we create from unused clothing. The average North American creates a waste of 68 lbs. of clothing per year and that amount increase slightly every year. CEO Ken Alterman was very impressed by how the designers and stylists at the show could reinvent the clothing and bring it to life in a new way. The fashion show was set up with two different sets. In...

The Silent Killer

The Silent Killer
The nervous system is responsible for every function in our body. From waking up in the morning to walking, talking, breathing, digestion, immune function and going to bed. Your nerves travel from the brain, down into the spinal cord, branching out into organs and limbs throughout the body to every tissue and cell. Misalignments in your spine due to injuries, poor postural, sleeping and sitting improperly, can place abnormal stresses that can shift the vertebrae out of place. These shifts and imbalances can pull on these delicate nerves and exert pressure reducing energy from reaching its intended destination. Chiropractors call this “Nerve Interference," a dangerous and usually silent condition with health altering side effects if it is left uncorrected. Over time if organs don’t receive proper nerve supply they are prone to weakness and disease. Most organs don’t have pain...

Escape Seattle: Jamaica

Escape Seattle: Jamaica
Seattle in the winter can be tough. For those of us with any sense, it’s time to pack up, ditch the traffic, and cash in your vacation hours to rejuvenate at the beach. But which one? After recently returning from the Caribbean, I would like to recommend Jamaica. Jamaica is home to the world’s fastest man: Usain Bolt, the world’s best rum: Appleton, and the world’s best reggae, including the legend himself: Bob Marley. The island is nothing short of a spicy cultural paradise. Eat the local street food like cheese patties (dough stuffed with beef and cheese), jerk chicken and curried goat. Drink Magnum (tonic wine), Appleton, and whatever once-off special the bartender is slanging by the pool. Where you stay is conducive to what you will do, but regardless of where you are on this magical island, you’ll...

Holiday Table Breakdown

Holiday Table Breakdown
Thanksgiving weekend has come to a close, officially declaring the start of the holiday season! For an easy and stress free dinner party season, I’m breaking down the meat and potatoes of your holiday event…the table setting. As creatures of habit, yearly, we succumb to the same decorations, color palette and dishes; this year I’m challenging you to try something unique, eclectic, and dare I say…trendy? Spice things up this year by adding dramatic and unique winter trends to your traditional seasonal décor, such as: faux fur, sparkle, natural elements, raw wood, and a less is more approach. Add warmth to your living room by using faux fur throws on your leather armchairs. Add dramatic touches by using silver glitter candles or shiny animal figurines on your coffee table. These holiday trends can easily translate into your traditional table setting...
