Runway Reimagined: Project 8.1

Runway Reimagined: Project 8.1
canvas space Seattle
Cover photo: Models waiting to enter the runway, designs by Boho Republic photo by Alfonso Arnold The average North American wastes 81 lbs of clothing a year. Can you even imagine what that looks like? We couldn’t either because that’s an incredible amount of money lost to shopping mistakes and unwanted clothing.  Eco Fashion Week is a non-profit inspiring change by bringing awareness to the community through the creative art of fashion. Founder, Myriam Laroche, started this idea in Vancouver  B.C. 7 years ago and has now created one of the world’s largest sustainable fashion events. Ten designers and stylists were showcased for the Runway Reimagined: Project 8.1 Challenge at Canvas Event Space in Seattle, WA. Each designer and stylist had one month to prepare three outfits head-to-toe using no more than 8.1 lbs of clothing and accessories. This task required...

Fashion Review: Fashion First

Fashion Review: Fashion First
The Finerie
This rock and roll inspired runway production had the audience dancing to the beat of the music and admiring every look. Fashion First is in it’s 13th year running and has been successful in creating a platform to share our favorite local boutiques, designers, and up and coming fashion students to the Seattle scene. This year’s new venue at Hotel Motif made the setting more intimate. The audience sat right up to the runway and even the general admission had a stellar worthy view of the show. Local boutiques received great exposure through a cohesive set where every look matched the music selection. This year’s line-up of boutiques included Canopy Blue , Intermix , The Brik , Cute Like Mad , David Lawrence , Divalani Style , The Finerie , Mercer , Ragamoffyn’s , and Sharply . In addition to...

Cover photo by Jean-Marcus Strole Photography lt’s incredible how a community can come together for a cause they support and show up for the people they love. Designer Olga Szwed was heartbroken when she first heard her friend’s Elena Scott and Masha Culver‘s children were struggling with severe illnesses. They were battling for their lives, and undergoing strong medical treatments. Elena’s son, Preston, is 6 years old and was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma (brain cancer) and Masha’s daughter was diagnosed with a rare disease that included 3 surgeries and a liver transplant at only one month old. Olga got her crew together, a.k.a her best friends in the fashion world, to organize and volunteer for a show that would raise money to support these two young children. Compassion with Fashion was a magical night. There were no empty seats, the room was...

2016 Nordstrom Designer Fall Fashion Preview

2016 Nordstrom Designer Fall Fashion Preview
Nordstrom Designer Preview
The Nordstrom Designer Preview Show was decadent and full of fashion savvy individuals excited about the new treasures for Fall 2016. As I drove up to the building along the Pier, I was quickly greeted by the valet and escorted into shopping heaven. High end designer samples were strategically placed throughout the building with racks of collection coordinated pieces, accessories matched by color on shelves, and fitting rooms to one end with sales associates ready to take orders. The market-like food carts with Asian themed hors d'oeuvres were delightful, there was enough time to grab a bite to eat and peruse through the collections. (photo credit: Nordstrom) I arrived promptly at 6 pm to have a good hour and a half of familiar faces greetings in the industry and discussing the biggest fall trends before the fashion show. There were...
