February Food News: Carbs, Wine, and Truffles

Feb-Food-News-Wine

There’s nothing better than the February Food News highlights to triage a month that includes way too much pink and recent rain forecasts that have undoubtedly tested everyone’s patience and SAD lamps. The closing of The Butcher and The Baker isn’t helping anything either. Here’s my proposal: wait out the rain in one of Seattle’s newest hot spots—before you know it, the sun will be out.

Newish

Reckless Noodle House

This haven for Vietnamese eats opened last month in the Central District. Bites like Caramelized Pork Fresh Rolls and traditional papaya salad are only $4 at happy hour which also includes $6 cocktails from the Reckless Margarita to a barrel aged negroni.

Le Messe

Eastlake just got another Italian joint with Brian Clevenger’s Le Messe. As it should be, the pasta is the star of the show with tantalizing options like Tagliatelle with Dungeness crab, celery, and Meyers lemon and Strozzapreti with braised rabbit, wild mushrooms, and vin santo.

Petite Galette

Crepe lovers rejoice! Petite Galatte opened shop in Chophouse Row at the end of January. The tiny hidden gem focuses on Breton-style Crêpes (savory as opposed to sweet), fresh juice, kombucha, and soups from neighbor, Marmite.

Browne Family Vineyards Tasting Room

From the vineyards of Walla Walla to the streets of Pioneer Square, this new tasting room is the perfect place to try local grapes. Learn proper tasting techniques, test your palate, or just kick back and enjoy great wine.

Closing

The Butcher & The Baker

Greenlake’s well-loved sandwich and brunch spot closed its current storefront last month. The website doesn’t say much related to future plans for a new store, but we have our fingers crossed. Their chicken fritter, fried green tomatoes and braised pork belly will be missed.
