August Food News - The Seattle Poke Contest

Poke is still the new avocado toast and the Seattle restaurant scene is still turnt up. Find a patio to sit on and take in all the flavors this summer has to offer while there’s still extra daylight.



August Food News - 2120
From the owners of 99 Park in Bellevue, 2120 spices up Amazon Headquarters with this trendy spot to see and be seen. Each dish includes a Mexican flare paired with local Pacific Northwest traditions including $2 oysters at happy hour. Sit on the patio and people watch with their New York “Asada” or mole verde gnocchi.

Tentenyu Ramen

From Kyoto to LA and now, Cap Hill, ramen lovers can get their fix. Tentenyu specializes Kyoto style ramen, emphasizing their creamy, rich slow simmered chicken broth. Their signature ramen is Tentenyu Chashu Ramen with eight slices of pork chashu, menma (fermented bamboo shoots) green onions, and bean sprouts.


Paleo fine dining opens in Ballard. The M.O. here is clean and responsible farm to table eating. Menu items like heirloom tomato salad with smoky bacon vinaigrette, Bison Strip Loin with charred onion jus, and Forged Mushrooms are inspired by the Stone Age, but take a modern twist.

Opus Co.

Greenwood gets a new restaurant from the former chef de cuisine at Trove. The neighborhood grill will combine seasonal ingredients with plenty of hearty meats from Enumclaw’s Wilderness Farms like Opus sausage with herby flat bread and Crispy Pork Coppa with fennel kraut.

Tankard & Tun

Pike Brewing opened their new seafood joint boasting Pacific Northwest seafood and craft beer. From braised octopus and pork belly Surf & Turf to fried whole Alaskan Snapper, beer battered Traditional Fish & Chips and more, each can be thoughtfully paired with Pike Brewing suds.


Clever Bottle

After 7 years, Belltown’s posh wine bar shuttered with rumors of a new, bigger location to come. It’s being replaced Mr. Darcy’s—a cocktail bar by the owners of Lava Lounge, Bathtub Gin, and the Rabbit Hole.

New York Pizza Bar & Grill

The Bellingham chain known for a vast menu and happy hour specials closed abruptly in May after owner Mike Novak reportedly filed for bankruptcy.

Young American Ale House

Maria Hines’ gastropub in Ballard closed in May. The spot will be transforming into a Mexican restaurant shortly.

Foodie Adventures

Sunset Supper @ Pike Place Friday, August 18, 2017 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.: Sample local Pacific Northwest fare and check out the new waterfront expansion while raising funds to benefit the Place Market Foundation.

Ballard Burrito Fest @ Ballard Commons Park Saturday, August 19 at 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Burritos save the world. But you already knew that. Enjoy Altos Tequila and as many burritos as you can eat at the first-ever fest.

The Seattle Poke Contest Monday, August 21 at 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.: This Seattle chef competition will feature the best in Hawaiian cuisine from names like Chef John Howie (Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar), Chef Mario Hevia (Super Six), Chef Cameron Hanin (Ma’ono), Chef Jeriel Calamayan (Poke Wai), and Chef Bayley Le (Go Poke). Proceeds benefit The Bennett Foundation to help prevent child obesity.
