3 Ways to get Buzzed on National Coffee Day

If you’re from Seattle, you’re pretty much obligated to celebrate National Coffee Day. Think of everything that coffee has done for you. I have a lot of fond coffee memories from the first taste of Stumptown in Portland, lines out the door at the Starbucks in New Orleans, espresso at the train station in Rome and many hours with my laptop at Urban Coffee Lounge. Seattle has so many incredible local roasters that are changing the way we drink coffee. From Victrola to Zoka, Herkimer and Elm, there's no shortage of places to drink good coffee. Honor your own coffee memories with a celebratory spike, and cheers to getting buzzed with a beverage that’s been there through it all.

E Smith Mercantile
Tucked away behind an all American mercantile with apothecary items, bulk teas, coffee, and candy, is a community driven bar and brunch spot. The old school charm continues to charm locals and tourists alike and it’s the perfect place to hideaway or snag a morning buzz. There’s an assortment of inventive coffee cocktails with a variety of spirits. Try the Beam me up Scotchy with scotch, bittersweet Cynar, cold brew, sweet cocoa tincture and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Pie Bar
Nothing says “I’m celebrating a national American holiday” like pie, coffee, and booze on the Hill. Stop by after dinner to satisfy your sweet tooth with a pie made using locally foraged berries and pair it with the perfect-for-fall Burning Apron. Amaretto gets mixed with Bend, Oregon’s Crater Lake Hazelnut Liqueur, rum, coffee and of course, whipped cream. Between the sugar, caffeine, and rum, your National Coffee Day buzz will be 100% on point.

The cozy brick digs of Citizen is a Lower Queen Anne neighborhood favorite because of their sunny patio, sweet or savory crepes, and breakfast cocktails. Let the coffee take the reins and order the Flatliner. Baileys, cold brew coffee, rum and creme de cocao are shaken, served up and garnished with coffee beans. The seasonal special is the Pumpkin Chocolate crepe filled with house-made pumpkin sauce, topped with whipped cream, rich chocolate ganache and a dash of cinnamon.
