Winter Is Finally Here: Game Of Thrones Season 7 Predictions

Winter has arrived – in the middle of summer. On Sunday, July 16th season 7 of Game of Thrones premieres. Through the first six seasons, viewers could rely on the books, written by George R. R. Martin, as a guide to what was coming next. This season, viewers will not have this luxury. Aside from what has already happened, it is pretty much a guessing game from this point. Season six ended on an intense note. Cersei Lannister blew up the Sept of Baelor and everyone in it and around it, including the High Sparrow and Margaery Tyrell. She took her seat on the Iron Throne and named herself ruler of the seven kingdoms. Arya Stark continued on her kill list by slitting Walder Frey’s throat and turning his children into a dinner dish. Jon Snow, or the King of the North, and Sansa Stark have control of Winterfell once again. Daenerys Targaryen has set sail to Westeros with her impressive fleet and three 747 size dragons. Bran is now the three-eyed raven and at the door of the wall. The final episode of season six completed many storylines but also left viewers with some major cliffhangers. Some pretty crazy theories are roaming around the internet, some far-fetched, and some that seem set in stone.

Jon Snow Finds His True Heritage
It was already revealed in a flashback at the Tower of Joy when Bran was watching Ned trying to save his sister Lyanna that Jon Snow is the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. How will Jon find out his information? Erik Voss predicts that it will be none other than the shady Littlefinger that will deliver the news to Jon. In the trailer, we see Jon shoving Littlefinger. The scene from the trailer could be Jon’s reaction the Littlefinger telling him his heritage. If Jon is, in fact, a Targaryen, that would also make him the second dragon rider and Daenerys his aunt. This is also an assumption that the two could be meeting this season.

Tyrion is a Targaryen
Tyrion was a result of rape. The man that raped her was a Targaryen, and that is why his father hates him so much, not because of his deformity. Tyrion was able to speak to and calm the dragons down in the dungeon even without Daenerys remotely around. If this is true, that will make him the third dragon rider.

Jaime Lannister Kills Cersei
We already know that Cersei is going to be in full dictator mode, she has lost all of her children and has nothing else to lose. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime, described the look that Jaime gave Cersei while she took her seat on the Iron Throne as “shock.” There was a prophecy that Cersei was going to get killed by her "younger brother,” which would be Tyrion. However, he is most likely a Targaryen, which means that Jaime is technically her full blood youngest brother. In the trailer, Jaime is seen carrying the sword made of Valyrian steel that belonged to Joffrey Baratheon. It would be a full circle if the king slayer became the queen slayer, and it would be poetic justice if the same steel of the Stark family that Cersei destroyed is used to kill her.

Houses in Westeros Unite
It seems like everyone has been too focused on power to remember that there is a greater threat out there, the White Walkers. This is the great war that everyone should be worried about, and it is definitely in full swing. The Night King has marked Bran, and that mark has the power to break the magic that is protecting the wall. If Bran passes through the wall, he might bring it down with him, giving the White Walkers the ability to go through as well. Westeros will need to unite to survive, and with their history, that should make for an interesting turn of events.

We already know that there will be many battles because the trailer shows them and it would not be Game of Thrones without some epic battles. For the rest, we will have to wait and see on Sunday.
